General Information |
Determines the blood group (ABO) and Rh type (pos or neg) of prenatal/postpartum patients. The Blood group and Rh type of expectant mothers may indicate potential for hemolytic disease of the fetus/newborn. Rh typing is used to determine Rh immune globulin candidacy for prenatal and postpartum patients. For blood grouping and Rh typing for any other patient population, please reach out directly to a local blood bank. |

Unacceptable Specimen Conditions |
Grossly hemolyzed, icteric, or lipemic samples. Frozen samples. Bacterial contamination. Samples from patients other than prenatal. |

Limitations |
Variable testing results may be observed with partial antigens, which are rare variants of the D antigen. Very weak expressions of the D antigen may not be detected. |
