General Information

Detects presence of unexpected antibodies directed against non-ABO red blood cell antigens during pregnancy. An antibody screen results of expectant mothers may help identify potential for hemolytic disease of the fetus/newborn. For antibody screening for any other patient population, please reach out directly to a local blood bank.

Specimen Collection / Processing Instructions

Lavender - The specimen should be tested as soon as possible after collection. If testing is delayed, EDTA specimens should be stored at 2 to 8°C. Draw an extra lavender tube in case of Antibody ID reflex

Unacceptable Specimen Conditions

Grossly hemolyzed, icteric, or lipemic samples. Frozen samples. Bacterial contamination. Samples from patients other than prenatal.

Limitations

Abnormal plasma proteins, cold autoagglutinins, positive direct antiglobulin test, and, in some cases, bacteremia may interfere with test interpretation.
